Despite several attempts to have the Australian Electoral Commission explain what is happening with counting at the Gilgandra Returns Office, they have not responded to questions and their website says they have a 5 day turn-around on responding to queries.

Counting for the Warrumbungle Shire local elections ground to a halt on Sunday when reportedly computer issue occurred. Thirty-odd extra votes were added to the first preference count on the website and then nothing more was heard until yesterday with a status update to “Data entry commenced”.

Candidates and ratepayers are anxious to have counting completed, especially when other councils have announced new Councillors and are in the process of forming new councils.

An email response from the AEC came through this afternoon. Full of information about what is happening and when to expect finalisation
