The International Dark Sky Association (IDA) has named the Warrumbungle National Park an International Dark Sky Park after a group of Coonabarabran locals and staff from Siding Spring and the ANU worked to meet the stringent requirements.  NSW Planning Minister, Rob Stokes, today announced the park’s new status and talked about how this will make the area more attractive to international astronomy tourists.

The official announcement has been eagerly awaited after the decision on whether the application by the IDA was made more than a month ago. The timing of the announcement is unfortunate with the Federal election and looming hung parliament being the main focus of the media and people of Australia.
