Talisha Kuras is a young woman going places. This week she will start with 11 other students in the PROWD (Indigenous Police Recruitment Our Way Delivery) program as the next step in her goal to be Coonabarabran police’s first indigenous officer. Talisha has worked hard to get this far and was awarded the Aboriginal TVET student of the year and Most Outstanding Aboriginal Student of the Year for the Western TAFE area and the Gibbs Family Award of Excellence for her effort and commitment to her studies.
Talisha wants to break down the barriers between the Aboriginal community and police and today Talisha will meet with the NSW Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Leslie Williams as part of the program, who will be keen to talk to her about her future aspirations.
