The National Parks and Wildlife Service will be continuing their Autumn hazard reduction burning in the Pilliga Nature Reserve (North of town on Newell Highway)

and the Goonoo State Conservation Area (between Mendooran, Dubbo, and Gilgandra).

Smoke will pose a hazard on roads local to the burns and motorists should follow signs and drive to conditions.   The burns are designed to reduce fuel load for the upcoming summer. With the announcement of Australia going into El Nino conditions it is likely that further hot, dry 2015 summer is on the cards and extremely high fire danger conditions in the Pilliga. Burning is expected to continue until the weekend.

Ring 000 only if you see flames in an unattended area.
