Coonabarabran has not been named as one of the 144 new towers announced by the Liberal National Party to solve the woeful state of mobile communications in much of the local area. Most disappointing is that the current government were told during meetings with the parliamentary secretary for communications in 2014 that mobile phone coverage was essential for safety in the area, and it was only luck that the Wambelong Fire did not cause loss of life with residents being unable to be notified that they were in danger by emergency services.
Planned towers marked on the map show that the whole Warrumbungle Shire has been left behind when it comes to communications improvement compared to Tamworth.
There will be another round of funding for new communications towers in 2016 using the information from the first round as well as any new information that comes to hand.
Concerned residents can email [email protected] to continue nominating other black spots for the next round.
