On the night of Saturday the 6th February the anti CSG mining sign on the northern side of town was heavily vandalised. The sign was covered with offensive images and swearing and NO indicating the opposition to coal seam gas mining was obscured.
Peter Small from Coonabarabran Residents Against Coal Seam Gas (CRAG) said the sign had been commissioned from a local signwriter and paid for by gold coin donations from Coonabarabran residents. He also said that there had been 3 vandalism attempts in the last few weeks and pointed the finger at the pressure on coal seam gas supporters now that AGL has withdrawn from CSG mining in NSW leaving the Santos Pilliga project as the last large project.
“It seems the gas supporters are lashing out as the unwanted industry is almost finished in NSW” – Peter Smal
