With October being the warmest month in recorded history and a good dump of rain in the last week, Coonabarabran is headed towards a high risk of fire over the coming summer.

Recent years have shown that Coonabarabran is a fire hotspot with the Warrumbungle National Park and the Pilliga having several serious fire outbreaks, usually from lightening strikes. An updated Southern Australia October Seasonal Bushfire Outlook by the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC shows that this year will be a higher than usual bushfire outlook for our area (and great swathes of the country).

Bushfire preparation is now an essential part of every Coonabarabran household and should be completed as soon as possible if not already done.
