The Crown State Meat-owned Binnaway abattoir is closed once again with the loss of many local jobs. The cause for the closure is being reported as either upgrades being made for export license requirements, or Managing director of Crown State, Jon Choi, said the latest closure was due to “economic and operational efficiencies”. The closure is said to be for several weeks.
Workers said they had no warning their jobs were in danger, and were disappointed they will need to reapply for their positions when the abattoir opens again.
The Crown State Meat website makes no mention of the closure, where it was still advertising for slaughter jobs as recently as February.
